Deputy Chief Dennis Delia announced at the January unit meeting that over 16,000 hours of community service were performed by the unit in 2009. This milestone shattered the previous record of 14,085 hours that was set in 2008. Congratulations and thank you to all for a job 'well done".

On January 1, 2010, Lt. Dennis Delia Jr. will be sworn in as the new Deputy Chief of the Lake County Reserve Deputy Unit. Lt. Delia will be replacing Deputy Chief Ryan McCormack who is retiring from the unit after a distinguished career of eight years. Lt. Delia has been a member of the unit since 2001 and in his tenure of nine years, he has be awarded a variety of accolades and awards. Unit Quartermaster since 2002, promoted to Sergeant of the Red Team in 2004, Promoted to Lieutenant of the red Squad in 2006, founding member of the Reserve Deputy Unit Honor Guard, elected to three consecutive terms as the Director of the Reserve Deputy Association, member of the Incident Response Team, appointed Administrative Officer in 2008, voted by his pears as the Command Officer of the Year in 2008 and was honored with the unit's distinguished Crocket Award in 2008. These are just a few of the reason Lt. Dennis Delia Jr. was selected by Sheriff Curran to be the next Deputy Chief of the Lake County Reserve Deputy Unit. Congratulations to Lt. Delia and we all wish you continued success.

On Friday, October 23rd, Reserve Deputy Chief Ryan McCormack welcomed eight new recruits to the class of 2009-10. Under the direction of Training Director, Lieutenant Hugh Gallarneau, assisted by three Assistant Training Officers, Lieutenant Steve Solner, Reserve Deputy Dave Kibitlewski and Reserve Deputy Jack Wagner, the class will receive over 130 hours of intensive training in a variety of subjects. Once these new recruits successfully complete the program, they will begin serving the citizens of Lake County. Congratulations and good luck to these new recruits.

The Lake County Reserve Deputy Unit Celebrates Milestones

In 2008, the Lake County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy Unit turned 30 years old in 2008 and in addition, set a new record in hours of community service performed in the county in a fiscal year with 14,085.

Here's a quick look at the numbers associated with the unit which was recently honored by the Lake County Board.

1978: The year the unit was formed
16: The number of founding reserve deputies
49: The number of current reserve deputies
0: In dollars, the salaries of current reserve deputies
140: The minimum of hours the deputies must work in a year
9,000: Estimated number of hours the reserve deputies worked last year at festivals, traffic control, emergencies, and numerous other events and incidents.
