Details & Call-Outs

Unit details are preplanned assignments requested for either the public or private sectors of Lake County.

Public Sector Details

The Reserve Deputies are called upon to assist the Lake County Sheriff's Department, Municipal Police Departments or agencies within the county for preplanned events. The unit generally supplement the requesting law enforcement agency, at that department's request, within the parameters of the unit's primary functions. These are generally short termed events such as a village's annual festivals, parades, etc.

The RD's may work directly, side by side, with the assisted department, or independently in direct support of that department. The assistance of the RD's is to temporarily increase the law enforcement presence or to relieve a department's regular officers so they may perform other duties.

Private Sector Details

The RD's are called upon to assist private organizations, companies, or charitable organizations, for preplanned events. Again, the RD's function within the parameters of the unit's primary functions. These are generally short termed events such as a social event of a church or a corporate picnic. The RD's are at the function or event at the request of the private organization. The RDs provide traffic and crowd control for that organization in cooperation with the local law enforcement agency.

Sheriff’s Department Call-Outs

Emergency assignments are known as call-outs. These assignments can be any day of the week and at all hours of the day and night. Call-outs can be for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, or for other police departments or municipalities within the county.

The RD's supplement the Sheriff’s Department within the parameters of their primary functions or in any capacity deemed necessary by the Sheriff and allowed by law. The RD's may work directly, side by side, with Sheriff Deputies, or independently in direct support of the Sheriff’s Department.

These are generally short termed situations or events either natural or man-made. Natural events are floods, tornadoes and other weather related disasters. Man-made include evidence searches or hazardous chemical spills.

Other Police Department or Municipalities Call-Outs

The RD's supplement other police departments and municipalities only within the parameters of their primary functions. RD's may perform outside their primary functions only when authorized by the Sheriff and allowed by law. The RD's may work directly, side by side, with the assisted department, or independently in direct support of that department.

Again, these are generally short termed situations or events either natural or man-made. Natural events are snowstorms and other weather related disasters. Man-made include power outages or traffic accidents.
