About the Unit
Today, the Lake County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy Unit is a dedicated group of 50 sworn Reserve Deputies whose contribution to community service is in the area of law enforcement.
The Reserve Deputy Unit augments the Sheriff's Department in times of natural and man-made emergencies. The unit works directly under the direction of the Highway Patrol Division and assists all of the divisions of the Sheriff's Office, including Municipal Police Departments.
The unit provides traffic and crowd control, searches for missing persons, and participates in crime scene evidence searches. The unit also assists local municipal police departments and charitable organizations in Lake County. This enables full-time Sheriff Deputies and Police Officers to concentrate on patrolling and crime prevention while still providing a high level of law enforcement.
Some of the regularly scheduled events the Reserve Deputy Unit participates in include: The Lake County Fair, Vernon Hills Summer Celebration, Libertyville Days, the Lake County Marathon, and other assorted festivals and holiday celebrations. The unit is also called-out for assistance for snow storms, tornadoes, floods, major fires, and traffic accidents. The unit is also instrumental in evidence searches on high profile criminal cases and has assisted in numerous searches for lost children and elderly individuals.
In the past several years, the Reserve Deputy Unit, inconjunction with the Lake County Sheriffs Deputies, the Illinois State Police and several local law enforcement agencies has participated in a several Roadside Safety Checks. The unit also participates in numerous charity events such as Hainesville's annual Shop-With-A-Cop event which provides low-income children the opportunity to celebrate the spirt of the holidays.
